Red Sonya, Chrisby, this is not a PvP focused game with PvE tacked onto the side. If it was, they'd release 2 new arenas instead of 2 new PvE zones for the biggest free update we'll have. If it was, half the threads on these forums wouldn't be PvE oriented. If it was, the devs wouldn't have said otherwise, and that they pay attention to both PvE and PvP aspects equally. And honestly, if it's between the dev's word and the opinion you two have, I'll listen to the devs.

Also, neither of you, Sonya, or Chrisby, have provided any valid reason as to why farming is "bad" other than "be patient" from Sonya, and that statement's had countless counter-points posted already.

In my face?

I've got 20 pages of support. I can either listen to the 20 pages in favor of this thread, or I can listen to the two of you, who've given no reason or purpose behind your posts. To be entirely honest with you, I think I'll side with the 20 pages of supporters. In your face me thinks, 'eh?

Gaile's told us many times that they pay strong attention to both halves of the game, on the GW box there's 1 shot of the HoH and everything else is shots of PvE, they're adding new PvE updates to the game, and well...I know many more people who play PvE over PvP, and I came from FPS games. I'd have to say this game is meant for PvE and PvP to be intertwined, with no half greater than the other. And your opinions, to which you've given no...backing at all, won't change my mind otherwise. I mean hell, Gaile's posted in this thread herself with a response that Anet has nothing against honest farmers, and that we should watch for further updates to see if the situation is improved. I've gotten what I wanted, all I have to do now is wait. So I can either listen to Gaile, or listen to Sonya and Chrisby...hmm...tough decision.

Really.

OWNED

the game is about skill not hours played and as far as im concerned farming takes some skill. I would like to see where Anet stated the game was geared towards PVP

I'd actually agree with SOT now. This thread has served it's purpose, obviously the devs are aware of it by now so I don't see any further purpose for it to be here. I've done what I wanted to, this thread is only a not-nice-things-to-say thread now me thinks.

But I'm still cool, right?

All of you are good people, I simply think we lost sight of the point somewhere.

I also would like to know where all the mods and admins are, hell's precipice? I have hardly seen them posting lately. Might just be me. But this thread should have been shot to death a day ago...

I first believed that certain things in game would be easily procured.. then after all the farming nerfs I noticed a pretty big increase in cost for rare items. Not because they are good, but because the nerf made them very hard to acquire. Now I'd like to quote something that has been making me rant for probably 2-3 weeks out of fustration mostly...

Quote:
We know that some players currently engage in repetitive farming activities for the primary purpose of unlocking skills and items for PvP. Rather than preserving the effectiveness of farming for this purpose, it is our intention to address the larger issue of the need for farming by assessing how players acquire and unlock items, runes, and skills, and then by taking steps to ensure that players can acquire and unlock these things through normal gameplay.
To date.. I have through normal gameplay recieved practically every single minor rune in the game.. probably 2-3 times. Now.. for majors? probably about half of them. And superior runes? I've seen about.. 3 of them.. it's sorta pathetic honestly.. why do I only get the minor runes it seems? I think drops should be increased.. the idea of getting one superior rune of vigor after about 630 hours of game play over 4 characters sickens me.. what do I need now? 2,400 hours to get to 4 runes to stock up my characters? What is there left honestly.. when I've explored the map, done all quests, done all missions, have the best armor.. pvp every day? pvp all my time? I'm sorry.. but the game mechanic doesn't work. Farming does.. there is something euphoric about soloing 5-6 griffons.. something just as adrenaline rushing as dealing with unknown foes in pvp. I feel sorta cheated to imagine this is a "exploit" of the game.

Quote:
We believe that the most effective way to play the game should also be the most fun way to play the game. You can expect to see the first meaningful changes towards this goal next week.
The game is fun already.. and farming can be fun as well.. can't I be happy with alot of drops from monsters? That I can then contribute back into the market? Is there something wrong with me wanting to give nice items to friends? (I haven't really noticed anything other than npc buy prices are now very pathetic.)

I think that above all else Guild Wars is a fantastic game that has done better than most of my expectations, there is abosolutely no reason for them to nerf farming. It damages the market, detracts on rewarding experienced players, and undermines us with these foriegners that try to sell us gold for cash on places like ebay. None of this would have happened if the game had more accessible items, and drops in-game.

Here's an idea how about being able to trade your FACTION points in for GOLD?? Now that should satisfy a lot of PVP players. And bring more into the PVP world instead of farming in the PVE game which is boring right?

Holy shit, now THAT's an idea I can support. I've got a few thousand faction just sitting there because I've already unlocked everything I want for PvP, it'd be awesome to say get 5 gold for every faction point or something like that. Then instead of a skill you can get 5k to use on a set of armor or something, or even if it were like 3 gold per faction point I'd be up for it. Hell I never use faction in itself, I'd love to be able to trade it for gold. That way it'd be like getting cash for winning a tournament. You should start another thread about that.

oh, wait, can't do that anymore, and it looks like i haven't been able to for months. why? because a.net feels compelled to screw up any of my attempts to make even the most miniscule amount of money and maybe even unlock some stuff. that is total and complete bullshit.

Yes Pie, you're still cool

We got the attention we wanted. We had our fun laughing at and flaming all the ignorant people. We even had the opportunity to have an intelligent debate with Thanas (who presented the only logical points for the pro-nerfing side...I believe...tho could have missed a few others).

With Anet set against over-generous drops, I think it's safe to say a fix will still keep the challenges (FoW armor) challenging.

Yeah, that has to be sarcasm, otherwise it wins the award for most ignorant post in this entire thread. And he's among some real shiners too

I thought farming was "evil" and people that make 10K an hour meant they made like millions a week, so to me it sounded wrong ... thing is, thats dedicated farming.

A casual player will only see a 10th of that, you nerf that to one tenth ... 100G an hour ??? wtf will I buy with that ???

I discovered myself "farming" when I decided to use my best char to get collector bits for my other chars. Five stinking frigid hearts dropped in like, my god, about 9-10 clean wipes of all Imps off that zone.

Hard yes, but its becoming impossible to find *anything*. One Silver drop in 380 hours? Its *dye* for god sake, why is more rare then Ecto? I got one of them, and not Black Dye ??? Something is screwy

PS: My only run in UW got an ecto, and I was the only one that run.

Heh don't feel bad, I deleted one of my characters and forgot I had a black dye still on her. lol But, I didn't whine or cry, I guess I'm just one who doesn't get excited about loot or gold or an immediate need for everything in the game to come easily. I prefer a challenge, but, I don't like paying for it like I did in Everquest. I don't know how many of you played Everquest or other mmorpgs, but, to me this game is just totally easy in all respects to gaining anything and everything in a LOT less time than any of those other mmorpgs ever took or would have taken.

Then again I guess if you came from games like Diablo 2 or Neverwinter Nights or Morrowind where everything came pretty fast and quickly, you would see this as a grind and slow. I've played them also, still play Diablo 2 and Neverwinter Nights (never really enjoyed Morrowind, it was like a mmorpg without any other players in it). I just accept what I get on a daily basis, which lately isn't much since I've unlocked quite a few great skills to created a PVP character than I've made well over 30k in faction and spent 3/4ths of it making my character better. I love the PVP part of the game and I always hated any form of PVP before.

But, that's why I suggested allowing faction points to be traded in for gold, eventually we are going to run out of things to unlock and then start piling up an abundance of faction points that will be worthless, so make them have a double value and really a double value to the game, money or upgrades. I think it would bring more casual players into the PVP world and it's fun just playing the random pickup groups, each day I always get in at least one group that ends up in the team arenas and I feel I win my fair share of the combats. But, I'm pretty good at any character I play so that helps too if you really understand your role and combinations of skills that can make you powerful even if you don't have the very best skills.

I guess for each it boils down to what each individual wants out of the game and that's where all the flux is right now. Some want it easier, some want it harder, who's right, who's wrong? Neither, but, the DEVs have to decide what is best for the whole and I'm sure they will, but, it will take time, it's certainly not going to happen overnight.

As for me, if everything becomes easier, this game will become boring much quicker, once I've conquered the PVE and played PVP till I'm blue in the face, there's nothing left to challenge me. The strategy and tactics are getting so samey already in PVP it's already starting to be boring and repetitive. And we all know "variety" is the spice of life and for this game it's longevity.

Need a motivation for replayability, and that is to increase wealth, fissure armor so expensive. But wait... it's still the same as Forge armor except it looks different, and it will take me endless time of exessive farming to get one piece of armor. FORGET ABOUT IT !!!!!

I've been playing for two months now, nearly, and I have a grand total of 35k. I don't have the time to spend dozens upon dozens of hours mindlessly killing hordes of creatures to earn enough money to buy some armour. Yet, that is what I would have to do. As it stands, I have no chance whatsoever of ever getting that super-uber armour. I can actually get to the armour fine, there's no problem with skill, I just can't afford it. Sounds like the opposite of what GW is all about to me. And I'm usually the one defending the game from the whiners on these forums.

missions are a dead give away. you go in kill the large group at the beginning (as most mission have) then zone. rinse and repeat. i got caught at my fav spot cuz i farmed it for an hour straight and a message appeared telling me if i keep entering mission then zoning to town then the monsters will run out of loot and will drop less items. thought to myself ok that's new and haven't herd it discussed anywhere. so i did the run again 4 items dropped out of 20 monsters while i was solo. i started cursing and got kind of pissed off so i started looking for other spots. the next day i decided to give my fav place a try again. low and behold all 20 dropped an item. the nerf for drops is only temp. i've found if i do about 5-6 runs then go to another town or area for a little while and come back the drops "reset."

this works very well because it negates the bots that are grinding the same place for hours at a time. while a real player knows that if i stay here too long i will be nerfed.

easy solution. do a few runs then go do something else for about 5-10 minutes. usually i go check the merchant's prices and pawn off the common and rare material i've salvaged.

since the nerf message came up i've found 3 spots i farm. i simply alternate spots out every 10 minutes. so far i've made 60k in the past 2 days playing for about 3-4 hours a day. money can still be made. as said before you just need to know the farming spots and learn to switch it up.

i do agree that gold drops are down somewhat but you know what it really doesn't matter. all the weapons i see for 200k+ i can get a weapon 1-2 dmg lower (overall) and might cost me 10-15k. if you want the "perfect" stats then ya it will cost you but the game is about your skills not gear.
Right.... so this is the reason when I go through the missions normally and most all I get are quest items? I do ZERO farming, and I watch as the other people in my group during regular missions get purple /gold items while I get CRAP most times. Badges... I DON'T NEED NO STINKING BADGES.

You can't honestly say that I'm being tracked for playing the game normally... I don't care what the gold drop rates are... I'd like to see some decent items for once. I don't want to run Thirsty River or Thunderhead 100 times just to get 1 or 2 decent items.

After all my hours of play since launch I've looted 1 black dye, and seen ZERO superior vigor runes. They added those new scrolls, and I've only even seen ANYONE in my group loot them twice (one of the lucky people was a guildmate).

So to anyone who says "suck it up", bite me. Nerf the Ebayer jerks, not me. I'm tired of getting the VERY RARE gold item that has ONE MOD... and having that ONE MOD SUCK.

I haven't even seen a frickin' gold item in weeks anyway...
